On April 8, 2024, millions of people across North America experienced a total solar eclipse. 
 
A time lapse of an eclipse is visible in the sky.

Text, as the Moon passed in front of the Sun, it revealed the Sun's wispy white outer atmosphere - the corona. Cleveland, Ohio. 
 
Behind a black disc is a hazy whitish glow of light. 
 
Text, in the artificial night, stars and planets become visible. 
 
In the darkened daytime sky, a point of light is visible near the Sun. Another point of light is visible to the upper left. A person points up at the sky. Text, from Dallas, Texas, Venus and Jupiter were very bright. 
 
Viewers could also see bright pink clouds of plasma suspended above the Sun by strong magnetic forces. 
 
Some pink areas of light are around the Sun. 
 
Text, The prominences spotted during the eclipse were many times larger than Earth itself. 
 
As the black disc of the Moon moves across the Sun, the pink plasma and a bright white glow appear on the edge of the Sun.

A large shadowy area is visible on Earth from space.
