Perseverance will collect samples from the crater surface to be analyzed for signs of past microbial life.
The mission also includes several technology experiments that will pave the way for future astronaut missions to Mars.
The Ingenuity Mars Helicopter will be the first attempt at powered flight on another planet.
Future equipment like this could scout locations and make deliveries to astronauts exploring away from base.
